Author Profile

Early Academic Pursuits

Dr. Takashiro Akitsu commenced his academic journey with a strong foundation in chemistry. Born on October 3, 1971, in Hamamatsu, Japan, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Osaka University in 1995. He continued his academic pursuit at the same institution, obtaining a Master's degree in Inorganic and Physical Chemistry in 1997. His dedication to academic excellence led him to complete his Ph.D. in Chemistry in the year 2000 at Osaka University, where his research focused on the structures and electronic states of copper(II) complexes with imidate ligands.

Professional Endeavors

Dr. Akitsu's professional journey spans diverse roles and institutions. From 2000 to 2002, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, delving into structural biology and bioinorganic chemistry, particularly focusing on X-ray crystallography of cytochrome c oxidase.

Subsequently, he joined Keio University from 2002 to 2008, initially as a research associate and later as an assistant professor. During this tenure, his research extended to photo-magnetic metal complexes and their applications for nano-scaled functional materials, including Prussian blue analogues and other metal complexes.

In 2007-2008, he held the position of Visiting Scholar at Stanford University, USA, focusing on the bioinorganic spectroscopy of multicopper oxidase. His career further advanced as he assumed the role of Junior Associate Professor at Tokyo University of Science from 2008 to 2012, where he investigated the physical inorganic chemistry of inorganic coordination compounds, nano-materials, and metalloproteins.

His academic pursuits continued with roles as Associate Professor (2012-2016) and Professor (2016-present) at Tokyo University of Science, demonstrating leadership in research and academia. Notably, he contributed as a Visiting Professor at Chaudhary Charan Singh University, India, in 2009-2010 and as a Visiting Professor at Strasburg University, France, in 2018.

Contributions and Research Focus

Dr. Akitsu's research spans the realms of inorganic coordination chemistry, physical inorganic chemistry (with a focus on magnetism and spectroscopic properties), structural chemistry (utilizing X-ray crystallography), and bioinorganic chemistry. His work extends to the development of nano-materials for environmental applications, such as biofuel cells and dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC).

Accolades and Recognition

Acknowledging his scholarly contributions, Dr. Akitsu has received numerous awards. Noteworthy among them are the Excellent Invited Lecture at GTGE2010 in India (2010), the Dr. Radhakanta Kajal Sen Merit Scholarship Award at the 4th World Science Congress (2014), and the Professor of the Year award in Biomaterials at the Venus International Healthcare Awards - VIHA 2018.

In 2018, he received the Certificate of Recognition for his keynote lecture at Chemical Science 2018 (EuroSciCon) and the Publons Peer Review Award in Chemistry.
