Dr. Takashiro Akitsu commenced his academic journey with a strong foundation in chemistry. Born on October 3, 1971, in Hamamatsu, Japan, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Osaka University in 1995. He continued his academic pursuit at the same institution, obtaining a Master's degree in Inorganic and Physical Chemistry in 1997. His dedication to academic excellence led him to complete his Ph.D. in Chemistry in the year 2000 at Osaka University, where his research focused on the structures and electronic states of copper(II) complexes with imidate ligands.

Professional Endeavors

Dr. Akitsu's professional journey spans diverse roles and institutions. From 2000 to 2002, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University, delving into structural biology and bioinorganic chemistry, particularly focusing on X-ray crystallography of cytochrome c oxidase.

Subsequently, he joined Keio University from 2002 to 2008, initially as a research associate and later as an assistant professor. During this tenure, his research extended to photo-magnetic metal complexes and their applications for nano-scaled functional materials, including Prussian blue analogues and other metal complexes.

In 2007-2008, he held the position of Visiting Scholar at Stanford University, USA, focusing on the bioinorganic spectroscopy of multicopper oxidase.
