Dr. John Francis Mondanaro, Ph.D., LCAT, MT-BC, CCLS, is a distinguished music therapist and educator recognized for his contributions to expressive arts in clinical and academic settings. He earned his Ph.D. in Music Education with a focus on Music Therapy and his M.A. in Music Therapy from New York University, where he achieved a perfect GPA, following a B.A. in Art from Saint Ambrose University. With over two decades of leadership experience, Dr. Mondanaro currently serves as Director of Expressive Arts Therapy at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, overseeing therapeutic programs, clinical training, and research initiatives in palliative and pediatric care. His previous roles include Clinical Director of The Louis Armstrong Department of Music Therapy at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Supervisor of Child Life/Creative Arts Therapy at Hackensack University Medical Center. As an adjunct faculty member at New York University, he continues to mentor future professionals in music therapy. His research interests focus on the therapeutic impact of music and expressive arts in medical and palliative care contexts, integrating emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Dr. Mondanaro’s career reflects a deep commitment to advancing healing through creativity, empathy, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
