She further pursued a Ph.D. in Biotechnology at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and completed her doctoral studies in 1996. Following this, she undertook a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Platelet Disorders at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, USA, in 1998, focusing on Bio-Science.

Prof. Mohanty's professional career has been marked by a series of progressively responsible positions at AIIMS, New Delhi. Starting as a Scientist-II in the Department of Hematology in 1999, she later became a part of the Department of Medical Oncology, AIIMS, holding the same position from 2002 to 2005.
