Artem Khalatov’s academic journey began in the former Soviet Union, where he was born on December 14, 1942, in the city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He pursued his education at the Aviation Institute (Technical University) in Kazan, Russia. In 1967, Khalatov earned his MSc in Aeroengines, specializing in the aerothermodynamics of aeroengines. His dedication to the field led him to continue his studies at the same institute, where he embarked on a PhD program focused on the heat transfer and hydrodynamics in supersonic nozzles. By 1970, he had successfully completed his PhD, marking the beginning of a remarkable career in engineering thermophysics.

Khalatov’s professional career is distinguished by his extensive contributions to academia and research institutions. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor, Senior Lecturer, and Associate Professor at the Aviation Institute in Kazan. In 1979, he transitioned to the Kiev Institute of Air Forces in Ukraine as a Full Professor. By 1983, he had joined the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where he currently serves as the Head of the Department of Thermogasdynamics. Khalatov’s international recognition includes being named an Honorary Professor at Cardiff University in 1996 and serving as the W.W. Clyde Chair Visiting Professor at the University of Utah in 2004. His significant contributions to science and technology were further acknowledged when he was named an Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine in 2018.
