Dana-Bianca Mitrică embarked on her academic journey with a strong passion for geography and human settlements. She pursued her undergraduate and master’s studies at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Geography, where she developed a keen interest in Human Geography. Her dedication led her to complete a PhD in Earth Science (Human Geography) between November 2001 and July 2007. Her doctoral research focused on “One-Industry Towns in Romania – Between Forcible Industrialisation and Economic Decline,” providing an in-depth geographical study of these towns’ socio-economic transformations.

Since November 2001, Mitrică has been a Senior Researcher and the Head of the Human Geography and Regional Development Department at the Institute of Geography, Romanian Academy.
