Dana-Bianca Mitrică embarked on her academic journey with a strong passion for geography and human settlements. She pursued her undergraduate and master’s studies at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Geography, where she developed a keen interest in Human Geography. Her dedication led her to complete a PhD in Earth Science (Human Geography) between November 2001 and July 2007. Her doctoral research focused on “One-Industry Towns in Romania – Between Forcible Industrialisation and Economic Decline,” providing an in-depth geographical study of these towns’ socio-economic transformations.

Since November 2001, Mitrică has been a Senior Researcher and the Head of the Human Geography and Regional Development Department at the Institute of Geography, Romanian Academy. She has been actively involved in over 20 research projects funded by the Romanian Academy and an additional 40 interdisciplinary projects supported by national and international institutions.
